ABOUT US
Cub
Scouts
The Cub section represents the second stage in the Scouting journey.
Cub Scouts is aimed at exploration whilst having fun. In Cubs children build on the skills and knowledge they have gained in Beavers.
The Cub journey allows children to undertake greater challenges and also further develop their independence. Our Cub Section caters for children between the ages of 9 - 11 years.
We currently meet on Monday evening in the Den from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. At our weekly meetings Cubs are encouraged to take part in team building activities and also work towards earning merit badges which they can wear proudly on their uniform.
There are all sorts of games and fun activities which are led by our skilled Leaders during the weekly meetings. Cub Scouts work toward developing their Scouting skills in areas such as map reading, track and trail, first aid and camping.
Cub Scouts are encouraged to spend more time in the outdoors and also take part in a greater number of weekend activities than the younger Beaver Section. In recent years we have organised Summer Camps to Luxenbourg and to the UK for our Cub Section. Since the beginnang of 2011 the current Cub Section have taken part in a number of hikes in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains. The pack also spent a weekend in Larch hill recentlyand great fun was had by all who attended.
If you are interested in becomming a Cub Leader or have a child interested in joining Cubs then why not contact us for further information.
Scouts
Our Scout Section caters for Boys and Girls from 12 - 15 years of age
Our weekly meetings take place in our Den on Wednesday nights from 7.30pm - 9.00pm.
Scouts are based on Adventure and putting all the new skills you will learn to good use. Scouts are encouraged to take on responsibilities and to challenge themselves during the course of their activities.
Using a "Plan - Do - Review" model, Scouts are encouraged to give their input and ideas into weekly meetings as well as their other activities outside the Den. As a member of a Patrol within the Troop, Scouts will pick up and perfect their skills to help them work on their Adventure Skills or other Special Interests.
Our Scouts take part in indoor and outdoor activities such as Hillwalking, Camping, Cooking, First Aid and Outdoor Living Skills along with other projects in our community and also take part in challenges with other Scout Groups on a County or National basis. Our Troop has been very successful in our County "Smelvin" challenge . As a result we have represented our Scout County at the Phoenix Challenge, Scouting Irelands national Scout challenge.
We camp regularly throughout the year as our year builds towards our Summer Camp and in recent years we have done the rounds in Ireland, England, Wales, Luxembourg, The Netherdlands and Switzerland. Some of us even attended the the 22nd World Scout Jambouree in Sweden in 2012.
This is just a taste of our Troop. If you want to learn more or if you are interested in becomming a Scout or indeed a Scout Leader please feel free to contact us.
Venture
Scouts
Venture Scouts range from 15 to 17 years of age. Our Venture Scouts meet on Tuesday evenings in our Den.
New members are always welcome even if you have never been involved in Scouting before.
The programme involves a wide variety of exciting and adventurous activities, where the Venture Scouts themselves are responsible for designing, planning and implementing their activities. From something in the Den to building a raft or hiking in the Alps, the programme is limited only by the young person’s imagination.
In Venture Scouts the young person takes full ownership of the programme, and they decide what they will do, when they will do it and how it will be done by using a “Plan – Do – Review”. In doing this they are supported and advised by a dedicated team of Venture Scouters, whose role is to guide and mentor the Venture Scouts as they develop their skills in planning and organisation.
Venture Scouts work in small sub-groups called Crews which come together to plan and organise specific activities. Some of these activities will involve the whole Unit and some will involve only Venture Scouts with similar interests. One Crew might take on the Four Peaks Challenge while another Crew might want to work on an environmental project. The Crew system allows for a wide variety of interests to be explored.
But it doesn’t stop there. Venture Scouting involves meeting and interacting with Venture Scouts from all around the country. National Events such as Trizone give Units the opportunity to test their skills to the limit while at the same time getting to hang out with new people of their own age.
So….Are you looking for adventure? Do you want to learn new skills? Do you want to make friends and help make a difference?
Time for some action! If you want to learn more or if you are interested in becoming a Venture Scout or indeed if you are an Adult interested in becoming an Adult Scouter in the Venture Scout Section please feel free to contact us.
